Knitting & Shenanigans May 6, 2021

Hi, fellow knitters!

We’ve been brainstorming ideas on how to feel more connected and to let you know what we have been up to. We’re going to give this short and sweet format a try and we hope that you’ll let us know what you think. We also hope you’ll share some of what you’ve been up to in the comments below!

Where we are: Galveston, Texas! If you haven’t heard of Galveston, it’s an island off the coast of Northeastern Texas. It has a rich history and has been the perfect getaway.

What we’re reading: Melissa is reading The Henna Artist by Alka Joshi and just finished Before We Were Yours by Lisa Wingate. I recently finished Home Before Dark by Riley Sager and The Diviners by Libba Bray, and am in the middle of How to Break Up With Your Phone by Catherine Price , The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab, and A Deadly Influence by Mike Omer.

What we’re knitting: Samples! And socks and tank tops and hats…. I think what aren’t we knitting would be a shorter list! Melissa has two socks on her needles, and is expecting some squishy mail tomorrow to cast on a hat and sock sample combination (are you intrigued about all the sock samples? hint hint hint). She also has the Jessie Mae Breeze Racerback about 99% finished and is determined to bind off this month. Stay tuned.

What we’re listening to: When we get the chance to work together, we usually rely on 90s & early 2000s pop to keep us motivated. We found this playlist on Spotify and it was fun to hear a bunch of our old favorites pop up! I’m years and years older than Melissa, but luckily our music choices overlap quite a bit. ( Hahaha, M. I see what you did there!😂 -B)

What we’re talking about: SO. MUCH. It’s been ages since we’ve had hours to catch up, let alone days. We’ve talked about everything under the sun. We’ve been brainstorming content and upcoming issues as well as KALs and new kits. In between all that, we’ve been catching up on all that has (and hasn’t) transpired during this last pandemic year.

What we’re drinking: Tequila! And our signature Texas cocktail – we can’t wait to share it with you! When all else fails, we defer to the easy-peasy vodka soda – right now we’re sipping Kroger Seltzer Water in Blackberry Citrus mixed with Nue Vodka, a local made-in-Texas find from the nearby liquor store. And by nearby, we mean walkable distance. We always appreciate our men a bit more after carrying a box of alcohol almost a mile back to the house.
