Hands holding a ball of yarn

Love in the Time of…

It seems the world has shifted. Fiber events have been canceled, many local yarn shops are temporarily closed, and people are voluntarily restricting their travel and avoiding public places. We commend these efforts and the hard choices and sacrifices that our community is making. It is our responsibility to support and protect one another to every extent that it is possible❤️

In light of all the sacrifices that are being made, we wanted to share some FUN ways you can support our community during this time:

~ Shop online!  Many LYS, Designers, Indie Dyers and other Fiber Artists have websites you can support.

~Want some yarn candy to view? Visit the social media accounts of fiber artists/vendors and show your support by sharing their posts!  Find new hashtags to follow and discover new fiber artists.

~ Plan your next project! Buy patterns from Ravelry or Designer’s websites, shop for yarn or pom poms from your LYS or favorite dyers’ websites and wait in anticipation for it to arrive!

~ Surprise a friend with a fiber care package! Order from your favorite LYS, Dyer or Designer and send yarn, stitch markers, a crazy pom pom or digital magazines to a friend (or make a care package for yourself!).

~ Buy a gift card to use later and have them email or send it to you!

~ Start planning your holiday and gift knitting now!

~Ask your LYS or favorite Dyer for help in yarn color selections, or have them surprise you!  You may find new colors in your projects!

~ Use this time to join in a KAL or CAL (like the Nomadic Knits Issue Five KAL or the Bridge Road KAL starting next month).  You can meet new fiber friends from all over the world, have fun and win prizes! The Nomadic Knits Facebook group is open to all. Join us in this amazingly supportive community for some knitting respite❤️

~ Missing classes at a canceled fiber event? Take an online class instead!

~ Need a refund due to a canceled event?  See if you can apply it to next year’s event or ask for a store credit or make it a donation.

We realize that fiber artists are not the only ones who are taking a hit right now. This will affect all of us in one way or another. One of the most important things that we can do in the coming days is to take care of ourselves, both physically and mentally. We will need to be focused and purposeful if we are going to find ways to support and uplift one another. So please, be well. Be kind. Find the joy and spread it far and wide. Preferably from a distance of approximately 6 feet or more😉

With so much love,

Melissa & Becky (and Bubba, too!)
